Each month, The CuriosiTea Bookshop will interview Sanpeters from all walks of life and highlight some of their favorite books and make sure we have them in stock. And who better to start off with than Governor Spencer Cox who hails from Fairview.
I cheated this month, and did not interview him myself but found recent interviews and articles in which he identified some of his favorite books.
In a Deseret News article in 2021 he said that his favorite book is Team of Rivals, the biography of President Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Then, in a more recent video posted to his Facebook page on December 31, 2023, he identified the book Differ We Must by Steve Inskeep (he actually says ‘Disagree We Must’ in the video but this is the book he meant as there isn’t one by that name) as his current favorite.
He says that it is also about Abraham Lincoln, “and the disagreements that he had and how we can disagree better. It’s obviously on point for the things I’m working on but right now, that’s my favorite book.” Thank you, Governor Cox, for working to overcome the widespread divisiveness and we could all learn more about our history.
